After you’ve contained the majority of the damage, you can begin looking for the leak’s original source. Inside your attic, look for gaps and holes, as well as any other visible signs of damage. If your roof is slanted, the hole could be on the outside, allowing water to flow down before entering. However, because checking outside during a storm is dangerous, you should leave it to the experts.
Seal It Up
If you can locate the original point of entry, use roofing tape or caulk to temporarily seal it. Using them inside your attic will help seal any holes and prevent additional water from entering. Keep in mind, however, that tape and caulk are only a temporary fix, and you’ll need to hire a professional to fix your roof leak.
